Commissioned by Windish Music & Productions, the project focused on producing a short documentary that captures the sound and spirit of the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee — known worldwide as “The Birthplace of Rock ’n’ Roll.” The iconic studio is the discovery ground of musical legends such as B.B. King, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis, and the birthplace of entire genres spanning blues, gospel, country, and rock ’n’ roll. Today, Sun Studio continues to preserve and share Memphis’s rich history and culture through the music that put the city on the map.

Only a few days were needed in Memphis to capture it all — filmed with a small but mighty mobile rig that made it easy to capture the timeless character of the studio and the artistry of the performers during the live recording sessions. The final film included music mixes produced at Sun Studio itself, blending the story of its historic sound with the energy of a modern performance.

The finished film premiered at the Uptown! Alliance event in July 2017, celebrating 1950s music and featuring guest speaker Ples Hampton of Sun Studio.
